Minghua received his B.Eng. and M.S. degrees from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at University of California Berkeley. He is a Professor of School of Data Science, City University of Hong Kong. He received the Eli Jury award from UC Berkeley in 2007 (presented to a graduate student or recent alumnus for outstanding achievement in the area of Systems, Communications, Control, or Signal Processing) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong Young Researcher Award in 2013. He also received several best paper awards, including IEEE ICME Best Paper Award in 2009, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia Prize Paper Award in 2009, ACM Multimedia Best Paper Award in 2012, IEEE INFOCOM Best Poster Award in 2021, and ACM e-Energy Best Paper Award in 2023. His recent research interests include online optimization and algorithms, machine learning in power system operation, intelligent transportation, distributed optimization, delay-critical networking, and capitalizing the benefit of data-driven prediction in algorithm/system design. Dr. Trung Q. Duong (IEEE Fellow and AAIA Fellow) is a Chair Professor in Telecommunications at Queen's University Belfast, U.K. and a Research Chair of the Royal Academy of Engineering, U.K. His current research interests include optimisation, signal processing, and machine learning in wireless communications. He has published 500+ books/bookchapters/papers with 17,500+ citations and h-index 71. He has served as an Editor for many reputable IEEE journals (IEEE Trans on Wireless Communications, IEEE Trans on Communications, IEEE Trans on Vehicular Technology, EEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials, IEEE Communications Letters, and IEEE Wireless Communications Letters) and has been awarded best paper awards in many flagship conferences including IEEE ICC 2014, IEEE GLOBECOM 2016, 2019, and 2022. Isao Echizen received B.S., M.S., and D.E. degrees from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, in 1995, 1997, and 2003, respectively. He joined Hitachi, Ltd. in 1997 and until 2007 was a research engineer in the company's systems development laboratory. He is currently engaged in research on multimedia security and multimedia forensics. He currently serves as a research director in CREST FakeMedia project, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). He received the Best Paper Award from the IPSJ in 2005 and 2014, the Fujio Frontier Award and the Image Electronics Technology Award in 2010, the One of the Best Papers Award from the Information Security and Privacy Conference in 2011, the IPSJ Nagao Special Researcher Award in 2011, the DOCOMO Mobile Science Award in 2014, the Information Security Cultural Award in 2016, and the IEEE Workshop on Information Forensics and Security Best Paper Award in 2017. He was a member of the Information Forensics and Security Technical Committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. Prof. Hesuan Hu

Speech Title: Robustness Analysis and Implementation in Concurrent Systems with Unreliable Resources

Hesuan Hu (Senior Member, IEEE) received the BS degree in computer engineering and the MS and PhD degrees in electro-mechanical engineering from Xidian University, Xi'an, China, in 2003, 2005, and 2010, respectively. He is currently a full professor with Xidian University. He is a holder of more than 40 issued and filed patents in his fields of expertise. His current research interests include discrete event systems and their supervisory control techniques, Petri nets, automated manufacturing systems, multimedia streaming systems, autonomous vehicles, cyber security, and artificial intelligence. He has more than 170 publications in journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings in the above areas. He was a recipient of many national and international awards, including the Franklin V. Taylor Memorial Award for Outstanding Papers from the IEEE SMC Society, in 2010 and the finalists of the Best Automation Paper from the IEEE ICRA Society, in 2013, 2016, and 2017. He has been an associate editor of the IEEE Control Systems Magazine, IEEE Robotics and Automation Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering, and Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing. He is an IEEE distinguished lecturer.


Prof. Yongsheng Ma

Speech Title: A cognitive engineering structure in implementing multiple layered digital twin systems

Dr. Yongsheng Ma has joined Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in Shenzhen, China since July, 2021 as a full professor. Before that, Dr. Ma had been a full professor with the University of Alberta (UA) since 2007. He was an associate professor with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore during 2000-2007. Dr. Ma started his career as a polytechnic lecturer in Singapore (1993-1996); and then a research fellow, senior research fellow and group manager (1996-2000) at Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology. Dr. Ma received his B.Eng. from Tsinghua University, Beijing (1986), both M.Sc. (1990) and Ph.D. (1994) from UMIST, UK. Dr. Ma has had an established research profile with many research projects from different sources, and published more than 200 papers internationally in recognized top journals, conferences, and book chapters. Dr. Ma had served as an Editorial Board Member of Advanced Engineering Informatics (ADVEI, Elsevier) since 2012, and became an associate editor since 2020. Concurrently, he also serves as an associate editor for ASME Journal of Computer Information Science and Engineering (JCISE), and an Editorial Member of Scientific Reports (Springer Nature). Dr. Ma had also been an associate editor of IEEE Transaction of Automation Science and Engineering (2009-2013). Dr. Ma is a member of ASEE, SME, SPE, ASME, CSME and a Canada (Alberta) registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) since 2009. In 2012, he won the prestigious ASTech award sponsored by The Alberta Science and Technology Leadership Foundation together with Drader Manufacturing Ltd. Dr. Ma had also served as a senator of UA during 2014-2016.


Prof. Mohamad Sawan

Mohamad Sawan, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, Fellow of the Royal Society of Sciences of Canada, Fellow of the IEEE, is an internationally renowned scientist in the field of smart medical devices. He has made significant contributions in implantable and wearable medical devices based on smart microsystems. Professor Sawan got a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from University of Sherbrooke in 1990, was a postdoc fellow in Biomedical Engineering in McGill University in 1991, and was assistant professor, associate professor and full professor from 1991 to 2018 in Polytechnique, the Engineering School of University of Montreal. He joined the School of Engineering of Westlake University as a Chair Professor in 2018, he is the Founder and Principle Investigator the Center of Excellence in Biomedical Research on Advances-in-Chips Neurotechnologies (CenBRAIN Neurotech) in Westlake University.

Kaoru Sumi is a professor in Future University Hakodate, Japan. Prof. Sumi received her Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Tokyo. Prior to joining academia, he had eight years of industry experience at KDDI and Mitsubishi Corporation. She is currently working on the research including Human Agent Interaction, Persuasive technology, Artificial Intelligence in Education, Affective Computing and Digital storytelling She previously worked at ATR MI&C Research Laboratories, Communications Research Laboratory, and Osaka University, where she researched human-computer interaction, knowledge engineering, and the application of artificial intelligence. After Prof. Sumi worked on media informatics and human-agent interaction at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), and Hitotsubashi University. She was a visiting professor in British Columbia, Canada.


Prof. Ying Tan

Ying Tan is a full professor of Peking University, director of Computational Intelligence Laboratory at Peking University, and the inventor of Fireworks Algorithm (FWA). He worked as a professor of Faculty of Design, Kyushu University, Japan, in 2018, at Columbia University as senior research fellow in 2017, and at Chinese University of Hong Kong as research fellow, and at University of Science and Technology of China in 2005-2006 as a professor under the 100-talent program of CAS. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of IASEI Transactions on Swarm Intelligence, and International Journal of Computational Intelligence and Pattern Recognition (IJCIPR), the Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics (CYB), etc. He also served as an Editor of Springer's Lecture Notes on Computer Science (LNCS) for 50+ volumes, and Guest Editors of several referred Journals. He won the 2nd-Class Natural Science Award of China in 2009 and 2nd-Class Natural Science Award of Ministry of Education of China in 2019 and many best paper awards. Yiwen Wang received B.S. and M.S. degrees from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, Anhui, China in 2001 and 2004 respectively. She received a Ph.D. degree from University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, USA in 2008. She then joined the Department of Electronics and Computer Engineering as a Research Associate at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Kowloon, Hong Kong. In 2010, she joined as an associate professor at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. In 2017, she joined the faculty at the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She is now an associate professor with substantiation. Her research interests are in neural decoding of brain-machine interfaces, adaptive signal processing, computational neuroscience, and neuromorphic engineering. She serves as the Chair of the IEEE EMBS Neural Engineering Tech Committee, the chair of the IEEE BRAIN publication subcommittee, and the board member of Brain Computer Interfaces Society. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Brain Newsletter. She also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Neural Engineering, and is the associate editor of Frontiers in Human Neuroscience (Brain-Computer Interfaces), an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering g, and an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on Cognitive and Developmental Engineering. She was recognized as IEEE EMBS distinguished lecturer in 2022. She holds two US patents and has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications.


Prof. Dong Xu

Speech Title: Mining Gene Relationships from Biomedical Literature through Image Understanding and ChatGPT

Dong Xu is Curators' Distinguished Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, with appointments in the Christopher S. Bond Life Sciences Center and the Informatics Institute at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1995 and did two years of postdoctoral work at the US National Cancer Institute. He was a Staff Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory until 2003 before joining the University of Missouri, where he served as Department Chair of Computer Science during 2007-2016 and Director of Information Technology Program during 2017-2020. Over the past 30+ years, he has conducted research in many areas of computational biology and bioinformatics, including single-cell data analysis, protein structure prediction and modeling, protein post-translational modifications, protein localization prediction, computational systems biology, biological information systems, and bioinformatics applications in human, microbes, and plant. His research since 2012 has focused on the interface between bioinformatics and deep learning. He has published more than 400 papers with more than 23,000 citations and an H-index of 78 according to Google Scholar. He was elected to the rank of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow in 2015 and American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) Fellow in 2020.

Kun Yang received his PhD from the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering of University College London (UCL), UK. He is currently a Chair Professor in the School of Computer Science & Electronic Engineering, University of Essex, UK, leading the Network Convergence Laboratory (NCL). He is also an affiliated professor of UESTC. His main research interests include wireless networks and communications, future Internet and edge computing. In particular he is interested in utilizing computation and edge intelligence to address challenges faced by modern communication networks. He has managed research projects funded by UK EPSRC, EU FP7/H2020, and industries. He has published 400+ papers and filed 20 patents. Dr. Connie Yuen is Head of Department of Applied Data Science and Associate Professor at Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU). Before joining HKSYU as an Assistant Professor in 2019, Dr. Yuen has over 10 years' experiences on teaching at tertiary education and working on various research projects at different universities. She is the Founding Director of the Big Data Laboratory, the Virtual Reality Laboratory and the Social Robotics & Digital Living Laboratory. Kelum Gajamannage is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, USA. His research interests encompass Machine learning, Computer Vision, and Network Science. He focuses on the development of novel machine learning frameworks to assure the geometry and the smoothness of the underlying manifolds of high-dimensional and/or big data. Hai-Ning Liang is Professor of Computing and inaugural Head of the Department of Computing at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), Suzhou, China. He is also Deputy Director of the Suzhou Key Laboratory of Intelligent Virtual Engineering and the XJTLU Virtual Engineering Center. He completed his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Prior to joining XJTLU, he worked at the University of Queensland in Australia and the University of Manitoba in Canada. He does research in Human-Computer Interaction, focusing on virtual/augmented reality, visualization, and gaming technologies. He has published widely in top-rated journals and conferences. Pengcheng Liu is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of York, UK. He received his BEng and MSc degrees from Zhongyuan University of Technology, China in 2007 and 2012 respectively, and received a PhD degree from Bournemouth University, UK in 2017. Before joining York, he held several academic roles as an Associate Professor at Cardiff Metropolitan University, a Research Fellow at University of Lincoln and a Lecturer at Zhongyuan University of Technology. He is a key member of YorRobots (as part of the UK-RAS Network), Institute for Safe Autonomy (ISA) and Assuring Autonomy International Programme (AAIP), where research facility has been established to address global challenges in assuring the safety and autonomy of robotics and other systems that use artificial intelligence. His research interests include bio-inspired robotics, robot learning, applied control and intelligent systems. He has published over 80 referred journal and conference papers in the field of robotics, applied control and AI. He has managed and involved in research projects worth about 2.6 millions pounds funded by UK EPSRC, Innovate UK, EU H2020, and industries. Dr Liu has strong research collaboration with partners from over 10 countries, such as China, Sweden, Netherland, Germany, Malaysia, Brunei, Australia, Indonesia and UK. Kai Wang received his Ph.D. degree from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2013. He has been the AI director in AI Innovation and Application Center of China Unicom, since 2019. Before that, he worked at CloudMinds Technologies Inc. and the Central Research Institute of Huawei Technologies respectively. He is also the adjunct supervisor of Beijing Institute of Technology. His research interests include computer vision, computer graphics, and human-computer interaction, and the use of them in various applications, such as intelligent manufacturing, robotics, AR/VR/MR and so on. He has strong publications on various international journals and conferences, and granted more than 40 patents. He led the research and development of various industrial and consuming products. He has received multiple awards in his career, including the best paper award of CAD Conference and Exhibition, Star of Huawei 2012 Lab, etc.

Carl Yang is an Assistant Professor in Emory University. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign under Prof. Jiawei Han in 2020, and B.Eng. in Computer Science and Engineering at Zhejiang University under Prof. Xiaofei He in 2014. His research interests span graph data mining, applied machine learning, knowledge graphs and federated learning, with applications in recommender systems, social networks, neuroscience and healthcare. Carl's research results have been published in 90+ peer-reviewed papers in top venues across data mining and health informatics. He is also a recipient of the Dissertation Completion Fellowship of UIUC in 2020, the Best Paper Award of ICDM in 2020, the Dissertation Award Finalist of KDD in 2021, the Amazon Research Award in 2022, the Best Paper Award of KDD Health Day in 2022, the Best Paper Award of ML4H in 2022, the NIH K25 Award in 2023, and multiple Emory internal research awards.

Dr. Yinqiang Zheng received his Doctoral degree of engineering from the Department of Mechanical and Control Engineering, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan, in 2013. He is currently an associate professor in the Next Generation Artificial Intelligence Research Center, The University of Tokyo, Japan, leading the Optical Sensing and Camera System Laboratory (OSCARS Lab.). He is concentrating on AI x Optical Imaging, with more than 100 research papers surrounding the novel paradigms of 'Optics for Better AI' and 'AI for Best Optics'. He has served as area chair for CVPR, ICCV, MM, 3DV, ACCV, ISAIR, DICTA and MVA. He is the recipient of the Konica Minolta Image Science Award and Funai Academic Award.

Boyang Zhou is currently a research expert at Intelligent Network Research Institute of Zhejiang Lab since May, 2019, and an adjunct associate professor at School of Intelligent Science and Technology, UCAS Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study. He received his doctoral degree in Computer Science from Zhejiang University in 2014. As PI or core members, he has involved in more than 10 national or provincial projects. He has published for more than 40 papers in IEEE TII, IEEE COMMAG, IEEE TPDS, IEEE ICC, INFOCOM and USENIX ONS, applied/issued 30 PCT and national patents of China as well as published / writing multiple standards. He has received the first prize for scientific and technological progress in Zhejiang Province, the first prize for technological progress from the China Automation Society, the third prize for technological progress in the China Electric Power Technology Progress Awards, as well as 3 best paper awards. His research interests include Industrial Internet Security, Smart Grid Communications, Active Network Security and Future Internet.
